J. David Berry

       Wichita--J. David Berry, 61, of Wichita, died Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001).
       He was born Oct. 3, 1940, to Ernest Andrew and Annie Laurie (Harrison)
       Berry in Newton.   He was president  of Drillers and Producers Inc.
       Survivors include: his wife, Arleen Berry; two sons, Scott D. Berry of      
       Wichita and Mark C. Berry of Peace Corps, South Africa: a brother,    
       Gerald.Berry of Topeka; and a sister, Bernice Hansaon of Lindsborg.
       Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at East Heights United Methodist
       Church Chapel in Wichita.
       Gravesite service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mission Center in Topeka.
       Memorial have been established with the Bearded Collie Club of America
       in care of Paul Glatzer; No. 10 Eden Drive, Smithtown, NY 11787.

Patricia Elizabeth (Graham) Groseclose

      Wichita-- Patricia Elizabeth (Graham) Groseclose, 62, bookkeeper
      for C & C Equipment Rental, died Wednesday (May 15, 2002)
      Survivors include: a husband, Jack L. Groseclose of the home: two
      brothers, Milton Graham of Tyler, Texas, and Johnny L.Graham  of Erie;
      a sister:Erlyn Crum of Peabody: and many nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in deathby a sister, Peggy Sue Graham.
      Gravesite service was earliertoday at Prairie Grove Cemetery in
      Cottonwood Falls.

Daniel 'Chops' Webster Walters Jr.

     New York--Daniel "Chops" Webster Walters Jr., 62, teacher and banker,
     formerly of Newton, died Oct. 29, 2001.
     He was born Feb. 8, 1939, to DanielWebster Sr and Ollie Mae (Griffin)
    Walters.
     He graduated from Newton High School and attended Bethel College in
    North Newton. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and upon discharge made his
    home in New York City where he lived until his death.  He taught at the
    Technical Institute in the Empire State Building for many years and worked
    in banking in the New York area after graduating from Columbia University.
    Survivors include: a brother, Ronald D. Brown of Kansas City, MO.: a
    sister, Victoria A Walters of Newton; five nephews: and three nieces.
    Gravesite service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in
    Newton.

Raymond L. Janzen

     Raymond L. Janzen, 61, died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at Schowalter
     Villa in Hesston.
     He was born Sept. 5, 1940, to Art and Malinda Pauline (Schmidt) Janzen
     in Goessel.  They survive of Hesston.
     He was a tool grinder attendent and a taxi driverin Adrian, Mich.  He also
    worked as a clerk at the Sav-A-Trip in Hesston from 1986 to 2001.  He
    was a life member of the North American Hunting  Club and the American
    Legion.  He served in the Air Force. He enjoyed making and collecting
    fishing lures and being outdoors.
    Other survivors include: a son, David Janzen of Seattle; four daughters,
    Cindy Vasher of Nianga, Mo.,, Toni Janzen of Corpus Christi, Texas.
    Cari Janzen of San Antonio and Robin Danglade of Michigan; a brother, Jim
    Janzen of Hesston; a sister, Judy Hess of Greeley, Colo.; and 11
    grandchildren.
    Book signing will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral
    home.
    Gravesite service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hesston City Cemetery with
    Chaplin Bev. Baumgartner officiating.
    Memorial have been established with Generations Hand in Hand at
    Schowalter Villa and Central Homecare and Hospice, both in care of the
    funeral home.

Burton David Fretz

    Baltimore, Md.--Burton David Fretz, 61, executive director of the
    National  Senior Citizens Law Center, died Thursday (April 5, 2001) at
    the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Md.
    He was a 1958 graduate of Newton High School where he served as
    student body president.  He graduated from Amherst College in  
    Massachusetts and the University of Pennsylvania Law School in
    Philadelphia.  He was a life-long advocate of social justice, especially for
    senior citizens.
    Survivors include: his wife, Anne Fretz of the home; two children,
    Nathan and Rachel of Chevy Chase, Md.; his parents, J. Winfield and
    Marguerite Fretz of North Newton; two brother, Steve Fretz of  Fresno,
    Calif., and Tom Fretz of Overland Park; and a sister, Sara Fretz Goering of
    Silver Springs, Md.
    Memorial services will be 2 p.m. April 14 at Cedar Lane Unitarian
    Universalist Church in Chevy Chase with Ministers Roger Fritts and Mel
    Schmidt officiating.

Carolyn Marie (Grochowsky) Cox

    Colorado--Carolyn Marie Grochowsky Cox, died Sunday (March 11,
    2007) in Colo.
    She was born on Jan. 17, 1941, to Vincent J. and Julia Buckman
    Grochowsky in Newton.  She was a member of the Newton High School
    class of 1958. In1959, she moved to Denver, Colo. She was employed at
    Bowman Biscuit company.  In 1963, she married Danny Leland Baise.
    Although they later divoriced, they remained friends until her death.  In her
    career, she was employed as a bond trader at George K. Baum &
    Company. She akso worked for R & L Liquor Distributors.  For the last
    fifteenyears she was active in selling real estate.  At the time she was
    taken ill in late Oct. 2006, she was working foe Edelweiss Realty in
    Lakewood, Colo.  A memorial service was held at Drinkwine Mortuary in
    Littleton, Colo. on March 15, 2007.
    Survivors include brothers, Michael Grochowsky of Overland Park;  
    Patrick Grochowsky and companion Trish Burrell of Independence, Mo.;
    Thomas and Kay Grochowsky of Newton; nieces, Jodi and Robert
    Thompson of Spring Hill; Leann McNolty of Newton; nephews, Jeff
    Grochowsky of Hesston; Keith and Laura Grochowsky of Overland Park;
    three great nephews and four great nieces.
    A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalope.
    Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery.
    Memorial may be made to Brain Injury Association of Colo. in care of
    Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.

Glenn E. Rupp

      Londonderry, N.H.--Glenn E Rupp, 61, an engineer and former
     Salem, N.H. resident, died yesterday, July 2, at his home in Londonderry.
      He was the husband of Elaine A. (Patenaude) Rupp.
      He was born in Newton, Kan., on Feb. 14, 1940, a son of Lucille
      Eisenbise and the late Glenn Rupp.  He was a resident of Londonderry for
      two years, formerly living in Salem, N.H. and Jacksonville, Fla.
      He was a chief petty officer in the Navy, in Jacksonville, Fla., retiringin
      1980.
      Mr. Rupp was employed by Merrimac Industrial Sales, Haverhill, Mass., as
      an applications engineer.  Previously, he was an engineer at Sanders
      Associates in Nashus.  He enjoyed flying model aircraft.
      In additionsto his wife and his mother, he is survived by two sons, Jeffery
      and his wife Kim Rupp and Thomas Rupp, both of Jacksonville, Fa.; two
      step daughters, Deborah and her husband frank Hooley of Derry, and
      Gail and her husband Daniel Sweeney of Pelham: a stepson, James and
      his wife Victoria Tierney Of Windham: 12 grandchildren; two sisiters;
      an adopted brother; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Gail (Abbott) Bodholdt

     CARROLYON, Texas--Gail A. Bodholdt, 64, died Dec. 1, 2005, in Dallas.
    She was born Dec. 10, 1940, to Louis E. and Florence Abbott of Newton.
    They preceded her in death.
    She was a graduate of Newton High School.
    Survivors include: sisters, Connie Huffman and husband Bill of  Merced,  Calif.
    and Valerie Kirchmer and Larry of Wichita; a brother, Jeffery Abbott and wife
    Susie of Newark, Texas; two grandchildren, Griffith and Mae Grace Haines; and
    sons, Trevor Crain of Austin, Texas and Tyler Crain of New York.

Lawrence Walter McGaugh, JR

    Newton, Kansas--Lawrence Walter McGaugh Jr., 65, died July 26, 2006, following a breif illnes.
    He was born Oct. 11, 1940, to Lawrence W. and Jewel Vivian Taylor-Mcgaugh.  He
    had resided in Berkeley, Calif., since 1961.
    A graduate of Newton High School in 1958, he attended Bethel College for two years.
    He served in the U.S. Navy from July 26, 1961, through July 23, 1965.  In June 1971,
    he received his bachelor's of fine arts degree from San Francisco Art Institute and obtained
    his lifetime teaching credential in1974.  He was employed by the Berkeley School Dristrict
    until his retrirement in 2002.  In addition to his secular employment, he was an artist and a
    prolific writer of poems and short stories.
    Survivors include: daughters, Jhana McGaugh of Oakland, Calif., and Genesse McGlaugh
    of Berkeley: a granddaughter, Yasmina Serville of Oakland, Calif.; sister, Bonita K. Horn
    of Camarillo, California., Sheila Edwards of Gardner, Mass., and Cheryl Waqiah of
    KansasCity, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
    His parents preceded him in death.
    Memorial service will be 12:30 p.m. at the Self-Realiziation Fellowship, Richmond Temple,
    6401 Bernhard Ave., Richmond, CA 04805.
    Memorial have been established with the Self-Realization Fellowship in his memory.

John Douglas 'Doug' Williams

    Newton, KS--John Douglas"Doug" Williams, 64, died Sunday(Dec. 26, 2004) at his home
    in Newton.
    He was born Feb. 5, 1940, to Lester A. and Virginia M. (McDonough) Williams in Newton.
    He was a big Kansas City Chiefs fan.  He also enjoyed watching the famous John Wayne
    movies.  Among his many hobbies, he liked gardening and chershing his pepper and
    tomato beds.  He also loved his flowers and enjoyed his trips to Colorado.  "Doug" enjoyed
    life overall.  He will be deeply missed by his family and close friends.
    Survivors include: his mother, Virginia M (McDonough) Williams of Newton ; a son, Jon
    Allen Williams of Lame Deer, Mont.; a daughter, Sherol Williams of Newton; a brother,
    Richard B. Williams of Hutchinson and a companion, Matilda Curiel of Newton.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Lester A. Williams.
    There will be private family services.
    Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral
    home.

Loren William 'Butch' Richter

    ST. LOUIS--Loren William "Butch" Richter, 61, retired captain and chaplain with the
    U.S. Navy Reserve, died Wednesday (Aug. 8, 2001).
    He was born Dec. 30, 1939, to Loren W. and Dorothy Richter SR.  His father preceded
    him in death.  His mother survives.
    He graduated from Newton High School as president of the class of 1958.  He received a
    bachler of divinity degree from Phillips University in Enid, Okla.  He went on toVanderbilt
    University in Kentucky to earn a master's degree in both divinity and social work and a
    doctorate in divinity.  While in Kentucky he worked with juvenile offenders at a detention
    center. In 1965, he was ordained  and was a Timonthy of First Christian Church in Newton.
    After his graduation, he went to St. Louis and was the vice president of operation for the
    National Benevolent Association, the charitable arm of the Christian Church (Disciples of
    Chris)t. He held a second full-time position as paster of the Hawk Point Community
    Church, a congregation affiliated with the Disciples, near Warrenton, Mo.  He also taught
    in the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University.  He was
    active in the Navy Reserve, having spent most of his career as chaplain in the Navy and the
    Marines, retiring after 25 years of service in 1992.  He enjoyed reading, especially the Bible.
    Other survivors include: a wife, Randa Hansen; two daughters, Karen Richter and Kathy
    McGee, both of St. Louis; a sister, Judy Stocks of Enid; and six grandchildren.
    He also was preceded in death by: a wife, Lynn Easterday Richter; and a daughter, Karol
    Richter.
    Graveside service was Friday (Aug. 10, 2001) at the National Cemeteery in Jefferson
    Barracks, Mo.
    Memorial service was Saturday (Aug. 11, 2001) at Overland Christian Church.

Brenda Joyce (Garnett) Harvey

   Newton, Kansas--Brenda Joyce (Garnett) Harvey, 56,  homemaker, died Tuesday,
    (Aug. 26, 1997) at her home.  She was born Jan. 25, 1941, in Newton to Harry and
    Edna Dickson Garnett.  She married Howard Harvey on Aug. 5, 1965, in Newton.
    He survives of Newton.
    She was a member of the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church of Hutchinson,
    Newton Women Bowling Association director, first vice president of  Bessie Evans
    Women's Missionary Society of the church, officer of the Women's Missionary Society
    and area No. 5 finance committee.  She also was a former member of the Eastern Star
    and former president and member of the Chancel Chior of the church.
    Other suvivors include: one son, Justin Dean Harvey of Newton; one step-son Reggie
    Harvey of Wichita; two step-daughters, Dawn Harvey Rainey and Krista Harvey Day,
    both of Wichita; three brothers, Clayton Garnett of Los Angeles, Norris Dean Garnett
    of Washington and Floyd "Skippy" Garnet of Newton; two sisters, Eileen Boyd of
    Hutchinson and Jerri Lynn Tipton of Kansas City, MO.; and four grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church
    in Newton with Rev. Shirley Heermance officating.  Burial will be in the Greenwood
    Cemetry.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until service
    time Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
    Memorials have been established with the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal
    Church in care of the funeral home.

William Dale Ammann

     Denver, Colorado--William Dale Ammann, 54, of Denver died Oct. 6 at home.
    Services were Oct. 10 at Evans Chapel on the University of Denver Campus, and
    the body was cremated..  Mr. Ammann was born May 18, 1940.  He married
    Jamie Pelk on June 12, 1966, in Ogden, Utah. He was a financial consultant for
    IBM for 28 years.
    Survivors include his wife; two sons, Reagan Ammann of Palo Alto, Calif., and Troy
    McMurray of Denver; a daughter, Laura Ammann of Boulder; and a brother,
    Stanley Ammann of Newton, Kan.

Elaine Ruth (Banman) Schrag

    Burrton--Elaine R. Schrag, 55, homemaker, died Saturday (Feb. 10, 1996) at Newton
    Medical Center.
    She was born May15, 1940, in Goessel, to Arthur Banman and Frieda Schmidt Banman.
    Her mother survives of North Newton. She married Thomas E. Schrag on Aug. 21, 1961,
    in Newton.  He survives.
    Other survivors include one son, Byron K. of Wichita; one daughter, Lori L. Schrag of
    Wichita; three sisters, Marge Neufeld of Lakewood, Colo.; Lela Trewett of Shawnee
    Mission and Joan Wiebe of Aurora, Colo,; and one grandchild.
    A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Central Community Church in Wichita
    with the Revs. Judy Lewis of the church and Leonard Wiebe of Aurora, Colo., officiating.
    There will be a private family burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
    Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to
    noon Thursday at Petersen's Funeral Home.

Robert 'Joe" Sturgeon

    Newton, Kansas--Robert "Joe" Sturgeon, 55, 604 Normandy Road, investigator for
    Hubbell, Sawyer, Peak and O'Neal of Kansas City, Mo., died Sunday (July 2, 1995)
    at his home.
    He was born Dec. 9, 1939, in Hutchinson to John R. Sturgeon and Jean Mason Sturgeon.
    He married Carolyn Sue Boyes on Sept. 23, 1961, in Newton. She survives.
    He moved to Newton from Hutchinson in1945.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic
    Church in Newton, Knights of Columbus, fourth degree, financial scsretary of the Knights
    of Columbus, two-time Knight of the Year and one-time Family of the Year. He also was
    a member of the United Transportation Union, Local No. 477, and past president of St.
    Mary's school board and St. Mary's parent teacher organization, all of Newton.
    Other survivors include two soons, Michael D. and Todd Alan, both of Newton; one
    daughter, Crystal Lyn of Newton; one sister, Ann Younger of Franklin; and one graddaughter.
    A rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Funeral services will be at
    10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church with Father Robert Wachter of Conway Springs
    officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
    Friends may call untill 6 p.m. todayat Petersen's Funeral Home.

Edgar Ray Beebe

    Moundridge--Edgar Ray Beebe, 59, who retired from Bradbury Corporation in shipping
    and receiving, died Wednesday (May 13, 1998) at Mercy Hospital in Moundridge.
    He was born July 2, 1938, in Newton to Delbert Beebe and Margaret (Hous) Beebe.  
    He married Mary J. Stucky Feb. 25, 1967, in Newton.  She survives of Moundridge.
    He moved from Topeka to Moundridge and was a resident for 17 years.  He was a
    United States Navy  veteran.
    Other survivors include: one son, Shane Beebe of  Moundridge; three brothers, Kenneth
    Beebe of Newton, Charles Beebe of Peabody and Richard Beebe of  Washington; and
    two sistors, Flora Mae Thomas of Lakewood, Colo., and Etta Hayes of Ford.
    Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hopefield Mennonite Church in rural
    Moundridge with Pastors Ben Friesen and Dwight Goering officiating.  Burial will be
    in the Hopefield Church Cemetery in rural Moundridge.  Friends may call from 6 to 8
    p.m. Fridayat Harder-Kaufman Funeral Home in Moundridge.

Kay Carolyn (McJilton) Lachenmayr

    Newton, Kansaas--Kay C. Lachenmayr, 59, of Newton, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at
    Newton Medical Center.
    She was born Feb. 6, 1940, in Newton to Luther D. and Gladys M. (Hatch) McJilton.
    They preceded her in death.  She married Howard M. Lachenmayr Dec. 27, 1959, in
    the Youthville Chapel in Newton.  He survives of Newton.
    She attended Newton public schools, graduating from Newton High School in 1958.  She
    was co-owner and Realtor of Century 21, Morgan McJilton real estate for 27 years.
    She was a member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, the board of directors for
    Mirror Inc.,the Newton Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directorssince 1998, the
    Newton Board of Realtors and a charter member of the Northview Development Services
    Inc. board of directors, all of Newton. She had been active in the Lambs Investment Club
    since 1991.  She served as a counseler on the McPherson Area Council for Alcohol and
    Drug Counseling from 1995 to 1997. She was a member of the Wichita Area Board of
    Realtors, the Multi-List Committee and formerly served on the board for the Kansas
    State Board of Realtors.  She also served as a volunteer for the Victim/Offender Ministries
    program, Prairie View Mental Health Center for 19 years and Parents Helping Parents
    Program, all of Newton.
    Other survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, John and Jill Lachenayr of Newton;
    daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Marlow Penner of Sedgwick; daughter Kirsten
    Lachenmayr of Newton; four sisters, Barbara Fabic of Gaithersburg, Md., Shirley Gates
    of Denver, Colo., Loretta Bowersock of  Dana Point, Calif., and Darla Neal of Hutchinson:
    and two granddaughters, Ashley and Brooke Lachenmayr of Newton.
    Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. Don
    Swender officiating.  Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
    Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Broadway Colonial
    Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.

Sylvia J. (Rossiter) Walker

    Newton, Kansas--Sylvia J. Walker, 55, 301 S.W. Third, domestic engineer, died Saturday
    (Oct. 30, 1993) at her residence.
    She was born Sept. 15, 1938, in Newton to Patrick and Edythe Anderson Rossiter.
    She was a member of Hall's Chapel A.M.E. Church in Newton where she was on the
    Stewardness Board and president of the Beautification Committee.
    On June 23, 1957, she married Dennis H. Walker in Newton.  He survives.
    Other survivors include three sons, Scott of  Newton, Dennis P. of Mesquite, Texas,
    and Vincent of Fresno, Calif.; a daughter, Robin Simmons of Newton;  her mother of
    Newton; a brother, Floyd Wright of Newton; four sisters, Karolyn Jones and Helen
    McClellan, both of Newton;Gloria Lawson of Oakland, Calif., and Shirley Marshall of
    Valley Center; and four grandchildren.
    The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton
    with Revs. Shirley Heermance and John Hill officating. Burial will be in Greenwood
    Cemetery.  Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Broadway
    Funeral Home. The family will be present from 8 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

J. Loel Loganbill

    Willowbrook, Ill.--J. Loel Loganbill, 51, Willowbrook, Ill, a technical service engineer in the
    glass industry, died Tuesday (March 10, 1992) at Hinsdale (ILL.) Hospital.
        He was born Oct. 1, 1940, in Newton, the son of Oscar J. and Warrene (Rose) Loganbill.
    On Dec. 7, 1963, He married Jan Miller in Thayer, MO.  She survives.
        He was a member of Burr Ridge United Church of Christ.
        Other survivers include one son, J. Michael of the home; one daughter, D'Ann Loganbill
    of Chicago; his father, Oscar of  Newton; and one brother, Dr. G. Bruce of Long Beach
    Calif.
        Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Petrersen's Home Chapel, with the Rev. James
    Anderson officating.  Burial  will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
        Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Petersen's Funeral Home.

    Katherine Mary (Kappler) Botts

    Kaye Botts passed away Thursday, April 3rd, 2008 at the age of 68 years.
        Kaye grew up in Port Austin, MI before moving to the Kansas City
    area where she worked as a Sales and Catering manager before retiring.
    Kaye was a very loving and generous person.  Her house was a home for
    many and she will be greatly missed.  Kaye was preceded in death by her
    parents Thomas & Alice Kappler, her husband Keith Botts, her daughter
    Kelly Thornbury, and her grandson Anthony Jolliffe.  She is survived by
    her sister Patti McNulty and husband Paul, her brother Philip Kapplan,
    her daughters Dana Aubrey and husband Rick, Tracy Gibson, Kristi Hunt
    and husband Richard, 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and her dearest
    friend of 47 years Mary Wilson. Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Monday,
    April 7, 2008 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel, 509 S.
    Nolan Rd., Independence, MO 64050.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be
    made to St. Luke's Hospice, 3100 Broadway, Suite 1000, Kansas City, MO
